Kick-Off-Meeting ISUL

From 19 to 21 October 2022, 17 international professors and employees visited the Hochschule Neu-Ulm (HNU). The occasion was the kick-off meeting of the International Startup League (ISUL). Several days of workshops laid the foundation for future collaboration and partnership.

The International Startup League consists of 14 partner universities from nine different countries. Partners from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Finland, Greece, Israel, Switzerland and Switzerland were represented at the ISUL kick-off meeting.

The ISUL project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project focuses on three main objectives: strengthening international cooperation; expanding digital, international and practice-oriented study programmes; and promoting networking between teaching, administration and research. The project is funded by the DAAD until the end of 2025.

The multi-day event, led by Prof Dr Daniel Schallmo, Prof Dr Jens Pätzmann and Prof Dr Klaus Lang, as well as project managers Sarah Leible and Verena Mattes, took place in HNU’s Innovation Space. Together with the 17 international partners, a three-day workshop was held to concretise the content of the project and to plan the further course of the project until the end of 2025. Various formats on entrepreneurship are planned. The next upcoming event will be an International Startup Festival to be held at HNU from 2-5 May 2023.

At the beginning, the ISUL partners were welcomed by Prof. Dr Daniel Schallmo and Prof. Dr Elmar Steurer, Vice President for Research, Transfer and Internationalisation. After a short round of introductions and a tour of the HNU, the participants worked out the vision, mission and values of the International Startup League. The lunch break was followed by another core topic of the ISUL project – an international Master’s programme. The aim is for future Master’s students to be able to study at a different university abroad each semester and put together their own courses. This was followed by a cultural event in the form of a guided tour of Ulm, followed by dinner and networking.

The aim of the second workshop day was to plan exchange programmes for professors, staff, researchers and students. The possibilities of additional certificates and summer schools were also part of the programme. The day was rounded off with a tour of the Founders Space followed by a pizza baking workshop organised by the Ulm-based start-up Brotreform.
