WINTER SCHOOL AT HNU 2024

Four countries, one goal: With the international winter school „Entrepreneurship & Artificial Intelligence“, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) brought together students from four different countries to develop innovative solutions for complex problems. 33 students from Belgium, Germany, Israel and Canada as well as five lecturers and accompanying persons took part in this intensive programme as part of the International Startup League (ISUL), which combined theory and practice in the fields of entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence (AI).

During the week-long event, participants from Shenkar College and TelHai College from Israel, the University of Applied Sciences Leuven Limburg (UCCL) from Belgium, Seneca College from Canada and HNU worked in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams on innovative projects. The Winter School offered students the opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and skills that will help them on their way to becoming successful entrepreneurs. During the hackathon, the students worked in seven groups on various challenges for the companies Peri and Fendt on the topics of AI and entrepreneurship. The aim was to solve the companies’ current challenges using design thinking as a method.

In addition to the hackathon, the programme highlights included company visits on the excursion day and a tour of Neuschwanstein Castle.

International, intercultural and practice-orientated

“The internationality and practical orientation of our Winter School are key elements that not only provide participants with specialist skills, but also intercultural experience,” emphasised Prof. Dr Daniel Schallmo, Head of the programme at HNU. “By working with international partner universities and companies, students gain a comprehensive insight into the global challenges and opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship and AI,” added programme organiser Verena Mattes.

The Winter School was organised as part of the HNU anniversary year and was aimed at students from partner universities and interested HNU students. The hybrid format enabled participants to take part in the events both on site and online.
